    Your special salad??

Today I did something really different and it was fantastic!  I did a bed of lettuce and ruccola, cooked some onions and put them on top, some nuts, and then I put some gouda cheese on the microwave to make it almost melt.  When the cheese was very soft, I put it over the salad, and then added the dressing which I made myself: cream cheese disolved in passion fruit juice, some lemon juice, mostard and honey and some pepper.  Really it was delicious!!! And my girlfriend was impressed!  Do you make any special salad?

    Re: Your special salad??

I made an "accidental" salad once at work, my friend and I mixed spinach greens, caesar dressing, bacon bits, and pine nuts...and oh boy did those pine nuts really make a difference! I was hooked for a week! We work at a natural foods store and got the last two ingredients from our bulk section.

I always look for self made dressings rather than  already made dressings... I think that is really the original part, although that salad sounds pretty interesting.  Do you have a special dressings that you make yourself?

    Re: Your special salad??

Well what came to my mind wasn't a lettuce salad, lol, but a  jello salad.  It has three layers, the bottom layer is orange jello with shredded carrots, the middle is lemon jello with cream cheese, the top layer is lime jello with crushed pineapple and nuts.  Now I have a bad craving for it, I better go shopping.

Wow!  that sounds like a very interesting salad!  I would totally want to try it, even though I'm not a big fan of Jello.  the pineapple and nuts sounds really delicious!

Jello salad? Wow, I didn't think of that but that's a good idea.

I don't really care for jello but my stepgranny makes a good ambrosia with jello and whipped cream. I can swallow a whole bowl!

    Re: Your special salad??

I just remember a Taco Salad that was sold at a mexican restaurant in NYC.  It was served on a bowl made out of taco's shells and then they put in lettuce, tomatos, beans, corn, avocados, cheese, onions, and they had guacamole, salsa and sour creme to eat it all... Oh, and you could get also grilled chicken on top.  mmmm!!!

That sounds really good!  Especially with the grilled chicken.  I've never fried a tortilla for a taco salad, I wonder how difficult it is.

    Re: Your special salad??

Oh! We have a restaurant like that across the street that makes taco salad with a good crunchy tortilla. My mother got it once and it looked so good, but it looked very hard to start eating haha...the tortilla was standing so high. You basically have to just crunch it up.

    Re: Your special salad??

I think I might try to fry a smaller tortilla, more like a side salad.  I can fry taco shells so I think I might be able to make a small bowl. Wish me luck!

Now that's an idea...mini taco salads! I wonder if I could get any mini taco shells, either folded or flat. I know I've seen them somewhere before. Yum!!

Salad is really good.  I don't know why I forget how much I love it, but just throw some things in there like mushrooms or bacon bits, and it is so good and good for you.  I also love a plain, old-fashioned ceaser salad.

    Re: Your special salad??

Same here! I don't always eat it, but when I make it, it's one of the best things I ever eat and wonder why I don't eat it more often. I guess it's because when I do eat it, I go all out with it, it's never an ordinary salad...and I just don't always feel like putting forth the effort sometimes. But man is it worth it!

    Re: Your special salad??

I love all kinds of things in my salad.  Cherry tomatos are my favorites, and special dressings make a difference.  But I have a thing against the bacon bits... they don't sit too well with me, and I repeat them so much! I feel like a salad right now!

    Re: Your special salad??

I think everytime I come back to this thread I want a salad! Funny thing, I am not a big salad person (I think I've already stated the fact) but if it's spinach I could eat a big bowl of it! I'd like one right now like the ones I used to get in 5th grade...jarred mushrooms, chow mein noodles, bacon, buttermilk ranch, cheese shreds...mmmm!
