What do you put in/on your rice?

When I was a kid, my family usually put ketchup on our rice (white rice) and you have no idea how good it is! I haven't done it in awhile so I forgot but every time I remember doing it again, it was always good! I also like habichuelas or red beans with potatoes and green olives.

One way I cook rice is in tomato sauce and water, I bet it tastes similar to ketchup! I also add onions and black olives.

I hardy ever cook rice, but when I do, I make some kind of "rissotto" which is a rice with veggies, or tuna, ot whatever you want to put in it, and it is a bit more watery.  It is topped with cheese and it tastes great!

Rice goes with just about everything.  Hispanic and Asian people eat it every day.  I recently  went on a soup diet, and just to keep it from getting boring for my kids, I started making rice on the side, so that they could just eat the soup on top of the rice and it was more like a meal for them that way.

All of that sounds really good! Rice is just great no matter how you make it, because it is so versatile. Yellow rice alone is my favorite though! Even just rice and gravy is good and filling.

That's true, rice is always good.  I also like brown rice with butter and salt.  It really is filling!

That sounds good! It's hard to pair up brown rice with anything, it's so exotic! I prefer mine in soup...wild rice too.

Reading this thread, I've been thinking of making rice for tonight!  I do have some sausages so I'll make it as a side dish with the sausages...  Germans are more into potatos, but tonight rice is the guest!

Lol, I'm making chicken fried rice tonight with egg drop soup.  But I'm actually craving tacos.

You know, I don't think my German family really eats much rice either! I guess knodel is their equivalent? I'm not sure what is often served with main dishes out there.

I love rice and make it alot as a side dish with dinner.  I love it cooked in tomato sauce or I pour tomato juice on top of it when it is done.  I also like stewed tomatoes in my rice.  Sometimes I added sausage bits or chicken pieces and make a meal of it.

I like to stir through an egg and a selection of veggies. Then it becomes a meal in itself.

Same here... unless it's an ingredient in another dish, I rarely make it.  I *do* like jasmine rice but I don't buy that very often either.  The most usage for me is when I make something that gets served over top of rice.

One way I like to spice up rice is to drop a boullion, as powder or cube into the water as it is boiling. Any kind of boullion is good, I think. As a vegetarian I use beef flavour or chicken flavour. You can use veggie, onion, or whatever else you want. The rice comes out tasting great.

That sounds like a very good idea.  I have cooked rice in chicken broth instead of just plain water and it always made a really big difference in taste.
